Land Deed Book___ Page___ Shaffer to Wallace This Indenture made the 14th day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred & twenty two Between Christopher Shaffer and mary his wife of the county of Greenbrier and State of Virginia of the one part & Robert P Wallace of the county & state afforsaid of the other part Witnesseth that for and in Consideration of the Sum of Ten Dollars Current Money of the United States of America to them in hand paid by the said Robert P Wallace the right Whereof they do hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained and sold unto the said Robert P Wallace his heirs or assigns one certain Tract or parcel of Land lying in the County of Greenbrier on the Waters of Sinking Creek Containing Containing one Hundred & Seventy acres (more or less) by survey bearing date the 22nd day of November one thousand seven hundred & ninety five as will appear by patent And adjoining the Lands of John Huggins John McFerrin Francis Moro [?] James Jordin & John McCoys heirs & bounded as followeth to wit, Beginning at a white oak & Walnut corner to Huggins & Jno McFerrin and with the Latter W24 poles to a large White oak corner to Marra [?] and With N16W102 poles to a Maple & White oak N53E52 poles to a Spanish oak top of a Hill S70E34 poles to a Cherry tree and Hickory Corner to ____ and Jorden and with Jorden N13E158 to a white oak and Spanish Oak Corner to said and another Survey made for John Huggins & with Huggins S73E68 poles to a white oak and Cherry tree Corner to said & McCoys Heirs & with McCoys Heirs S36W128 poles to a white oak & walnut S45W18 poles to three White oaks Corner to said Huggins & with Huggins S24W68 poles to a white oak N65W50 poles to a poplar S72W70 poles to the White oak & Walnut the Beginning with all its app___tenances to Have & to hold the said Tract or parcel of Land with its app___tenances to the said Robert P Wallace his heirs and assigns forever to the only ___ & ____ of him the Said Robert P Wallace his heirs & forever and the said Christopher Shaffer & Mary his wife doth for themselves and their heirs & do hereby Warrant & forever defend the aforesaid Tract or parcel of Land unto the Said Robert P Wallace and his heirs & assigns against any person or manner of persons Whatsoever Claiming any right or title ____ by virtue of any deed conveyance or other Title from him or them In witness Whereunto We have hereunto set our Hand & Seals the day o& year first written His Witness present Christopher X Shaffer (Seal) Greenbrier County To wit: Mark Her Mary X Shaffer (Seal Mark We James Withrow & James McLaughlin Justices of the peace for the county aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby Certify that Mary Shaffer the wife of Christ'r Shaffer parties to a Certain deed bearing date on the 14th day of September in the 1822 and hereto annesed personally appeared before me in our county aforesaid and being Examined by us privily and apart from her Husband & having the deed aforesaid fully Explained to her She the Said Mary Shaffer acknowledged the Same to be her act & deed & declared that She had Willingly Signed Sealed and Delivered the same and that she wished Not to retract it given Under our hands & Seals this 16th day of October 1822 James Withrow (Seal) James McLaughlin (Seal) Greenbrier County Court Clerks Office September 14 1822 This deed was presented in the office aforesaid and duly acknowledged by Christopher Shaffer a party therto to be his act & deed and the same is accordingly admitted to record Teste Lewis Stuart C.G.C.
